The World Cup matches officially began in the year 1975 in England, with
eight teams; the 6 Test playing nations England,
Australia, New Zealand, West
Indies, India, Pakistan along with Srilanka and East Africa. A huge success
the first time round, the tournament has been taking place every four years
since then, participated by major teams all over the world. However much
earlier, an attempt at a World triangular tournament was made way back in
1912 between Australia, England and
South
Africa where all the matches were
Test matches. The hosts England won.
